I have always filtered the reality in a specific manner emphasizing the notions of solitude, melancholy, escapism, abandon, fears and expectations, love, lust, memory and recollection. Throughout time I focused on different stages of human existence, from childhood to the young adult, using narrative driven images with symbolic twists and turns embedded with elements from the mineral world, plants and fauna, all interwoven to act as reflections of my personal epiphanies.
My current artistic interest is focused on the young feminine figure, not as a portrait but as an archetypal vehicle for different human emotions as well as for certain aspects of metamorphosis. Delicate faces, nostalgic eyes searching the horizon, expressions of hope, trust, disappointment, passion, regrets and expectations with only a glimpse of the unbreakable feminine strength behind them. My work reveals my interest in the escapism and melancholy of the 19th century Romantic aesthetics and the contemporary social environment- a melancholic attitude towards the lost spiritual values, as well as a deep interest for what lies beneath the surface of daily life.
From monochrome oil paintings, to large acryilics, to highly detailed drawings in ink or pencil or mixed media/experimental approaches, I kept a constant interest in expanding my knowledge and artistic abilities. For many years I used the pointillist ink technique, fascinated by the precision that it required, the patience and certain skills involved. Now I rediscover the pleasure of the free brush strokes, including in my figurative compositions abstract parts. I use acrylic colors, permanent markers and ink in both my drawings and paintings.
